PATIENT GUIDE

IVF costs: questions to ask before starting

When comparing IVF estimates, first check whether they describe the same treatment. A single headline price can leave out details you need to plan your spending.

Ask for an itemised estimate

Request a written explanation of what the proposed plan includes. Ask about consultation fees, investigations, medicines, monitoring, egg collection, laboratory work and embryo transfer.

This page does not quote a treatment price. The centre needs to explain the estimate for the plan recommended after your assessment.

Separate the current cycle from later treatment

If embryos will be frozen, ask about freezing and ongoing storage. Check whether a future frozen embryo transfer has a separate fee. Egg freezing also has later costs if you return to use the eggs.

Ask what happens financially if the treatment plan changes, a cycle is stopped, or there is no embryo suitable for transfer. Understanding these possibilities before you start is more useful than making assumptions.

Ask about optional procedures

If an additional procedure is suggested, ask what it is intended to address in your case, what evidence supports it and what it costs. You should be able to distinguish the main treatment from optional additions.

Discuss payment arrangements directly

DYU Healthcare has published information about IVF and no-cost EMI. Contact the centre for current terms, eligibility, charges and the provider's agreement. An article is not confirmation that a finance option applies to your treatment.

A short checklist

  • Is the estimate written and itemised?
  • Which medicines and tests are included?
  • Are storage and a later transfer separate?
  • What would happen if the cycle changes or stops?
  • Have any finance terms been explained in writing?

Use these pages to prepare your questions. The clinic can confirm details for your appointment.
