What is a frozen embryo transfer?
A frozen embryo transfer, or FET, uses an embryo that was created in an earlier IVF cycle and stored. The laboratory warms the embryo before the clinician transfers it into the uterus.
DYU Healthcare includes FET in its fertility services. It may be discussed after a previous IVF cycle or as part of a plan to transfer at a later stage.
Planning the cycle
The team reviews your records and prepares a schedule for monitoring the uterine lining and timing the transfer. Medication may be part of that schedule. The details vary, so confirm your instructions directly with the clinic.
If your embryos are stored elsewhere, speak to the team before making arrangements. Ask what records they need and how any proposed transfer of stored material would be handled.
Embryo warming and transfer
The embryology team checks the embryo after warming. The clinician places a suitable embryo into the uterus with a thin catheter. The clinic then gives you a medication plan and a pregnancy-test date.
Not every embryo survives warming, and a transfer does not always lead to pregnancy. Ask how your embryo records inform the discussion of possible outcomes.
What does the estimate include?
A transfer estimate may be separate from the earlier egg-collection cycle. Request a breakdown rather than assuming the original IVF cost covers every later visit.
