What the test checks

Semen analysis examines sperm count, movement and shape. It forms part of a fertility assessment rather than giving a complete answer about whether you can conceive.

Preparing for your sample

Ask the laboratory for its collection instructions before your appointment. Tell the team about recent illness, medicines and any difficulty collecting the sample. Your clinician can explain whether another sample is needed.
