FERTILITY TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Sperm freezing and fertility preservation

Sperm freezing may be considered before treatment that could affect fertility or when a stored sample could help with future fertility care. An early conversation can clarify the options.

When might sperm freezing be considered?

Some people freeze sperm before medical treatment that may affect fertility. Others may discuss storage because providing a sample on the day of fertility treatment could be difficult. The reason for storage helps guide the assessment.

What happens before storage?

The clinic will explain sample collection, screening and consent. A laboratory assesses the sample and prepares it for freezing. Ask whether more than one collection is advisable for your circumstances.

How can frozen sperm be used?

Frozen sperm may be used in assisted conception, including IUI, IVF or ICSI, depending on the sample and the wider treatment plan. Not all sperm survive freezing and thawing. Your team should explain what the stored sample may allow.

Planning with the DYU team

Ask DYU in HSR Layout to confirm the collection and storage arrangements available to you, the expected timing and the fees. If another medical team is planning treatment, tell both teams so they can discuss timing before you make changes.

  • What tests and consent are needed before collection?
  • What are the collection, freezing and ongoing storage charges?
  • How will the sample be assessed after thawing?
  • Who should I contact when I am ready to use it?
