Where to start with fertility care

You do not need to know which treatment you want before speaking to a specialist. Start with what has brought you here, whether that is difficulty conceiving, an earlier treatment or questions about future fertility.

If you are considering your first consultation

An appointment can help you understand which investigations are appropriate and what they might tell you. Bring any existing reports and explain what you have already tried. Your assessment can include both partners where relevant.

If you have had fertility treatment before

A review is more useful with the earlier records. Bring the treatment summary and laboratory or transfer reports you were given. Ask which findings matter for the next decision and whether the doctor would change the approach.

If pregnancy is a plan for later

DYU lists egg freezing and other fertility preservation services. You can discuss these without deciding to start a treatment cycle. Ask about the limitations, storage arrangements and costs of using stored material later.

If the next step is unclear

Ask the specialist to explain the options in order: what is known, what further assessment might change, and what decision comes next. You can return to the treatment pages after the consultation with a clearer idea of what applies to you.

Use these pages to prepare your questions. The clinic can confirm details for your appointment.
